After a successful high school career in speech and debate, he joined the Coolidge Presidential Foundation's 1890 Society, where he remains a member. He has also worked as Executive Assistant at Rhetoric LLC, which publishes debate guides and research, and later consulted for the company.

Cyrus reports on aviation in print and online, with work published across trade press, consumer media, and social platforms. In 2020 he founded The Avid Aviator, an aviation brand he still produces, which now reaches hundreds of thousands of viewers a month and has passed seven million lifetime views.
